A New Zealand born lawyer, Gerard completed a Bachelor of Laws (1981-1985) and Masters of Laws (Honours) with a thesis in international trade law (1992-1994) at the University of Auckland. From 1994 to late 2016 he worked overseas gaining international experience. 

From 2000 onwards, as a senior legal counsel and negotiator, he has focused on the development, provision and use of technology systems.

He has supported bespoke technology consulting, development & implementation and outsourced services engagements concerning material technology solution architectures and their delivery and service models. He also has extensive experience in negotiating and structuring alliance or channel engagements. 

Gerard has worked for global IT consultancy groups and represented other global and SME providers, users, investors and early stage companies, and engaged with business and government agencies teams in the ANZ, Asia Pacific, North American, UK and European markets.

His roles have included:

• 5 years as EDS Australia’s Senior Negotiation lead (for inbound dependent IT outsourced systems).EDS is now part of global entity DXC Technology. 
• 5 years in the Accenture group - in Sydney with Accenture Australia and in London as Deputy UK Counsel for Avanade UK (a Microsoft business systems global implementation partner).
• 3 years as a Special Counsel in Sydney for a 2-man specialist IT providers practice group at Bird &Bird LLP (formerly Truman Hoyle Partners).
• Acting Head of Legal for Baringa Partners LLP (an Energy/FS sectors and technology systems management consultancy) in London in 2016.

From late 2015, Gerard founded and has operated a negotiation and strategic services business, Be Amorgos IT Negotiation Services (www.beamorgos.com). 

Collaborative negotiation and Mediation focus:

Through the above experience, Gerard has evolved a range of skills and approaches that align diverse stakeholders, and, with energy, delivers collaborative solutions based on understanding the detailed technology context, key risks and mediating conflict. 

In particular he has managed complex negotiated work arounds for a range of misaligned or conflicted IT implementation projects, concerning both private sector and government agencies.

In early 2016, Gerard obtained in London a CEDR mediation accreditation to progress his belief in the growing need for neutral mediation of misunderstandings or disputes concerning the IT projects.

Prior to his career focus on the technology sector, Gerard specialised in non listed mergers and acquisitions project work 

Qualifications:

• Mediator: In April 2016 CEDR (www.cedr.com) mediator accreditation attained in London. In early 2017 Gerard attained an Associate Membership of AMINZ. 
• Admitted Solicitor:
i. Admitted to the role of barristers and solicitors of the High Court of New Zealand; and
ii. Admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales, Australia. 
• LLM (Honours), University of Auckland with a thesis on t judicial interpretation harmonisation concerning disputes governed by international trade law conventions, and studies in international arbitration and business law.
• Bachelor of Law, University of Auckland.
