• construction and engineering disputes (e.g. acting as senior junior counsel for Fluor in the Fluor v Anaconda arbitration, 2001 – 2003, involving claims exceeding $A1billion);
• financial services and investment disputes;
• contractual disputes;
• minority shareholder and joint venture disputes; and
• intellectual property disputes.
He holds the degrees of B.Ec, LLB (Hons) from Monash University, an LLM from the University of Cambridge and a Grad Dip Intell Prop Law from the University of Melbourne.
He is a fellow of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (‘ACICA’), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (‘CIArb’) and the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (‘IAMA’). He is graded by IAMA as a Grade 1 arbitrator. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (‘FINSIA’).
He is an Executive Committee member, and former Vice-President (Convenor), of the Commercial Bar Association of the Victorian Bar (‘COMMBAR’) and the Co-Chair of its Arbitration and ADR Section. Between January 2009 and June 2010, he was the Vice-President: Arbitration of the Australian Branch of CIArb. Since January 2009 he has been the Victorian Convenor of the Australian Branch of CIArb.
He is a member of the ACICA Arbitration and Mediation panels. He is also a member of the KLRCA Arbitration Panel, and a member of Melbourne TEC Chambers (MTECC).
He participated in drafting IAMA’s Fast-Track Arbitration Rules and Practice Note (published in June 2007).
